Pet Of The Week

This week from the Connecticut Humane Society’s Waterford Branch we have Misty!!  Misty is a 2 year old Labrador Retriever mix.  She is a spayed female.  Misty has been with us for over a week and came to us from another rescue organization.  She is good with older children and has done well with other animals.  Misty is a high energy girl looking for a new owner that loves to go for walks and stay active.  If you have any questions on Misty or any of the other animals at the shelter, give us a call at (860) 442 8583, check out our website at www.cthumane.org or stop in at 169 Old Colchester Road in Quaker Hill.  Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page!!

 


 

Wine Stories

Local Wines.  Local Authors.  A Perfect Combination.

Connecticut Valley Winery, one of our state’s most award-winning vineyards, will host our local authors in a book event that offers the unique experience of pairing wines with books.  The wines will be paired with mysteries, romance, thrillers, humor and inspirational stories by Connecticut authors.  The event will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 2:30 – 5:00 pm.

Wine Storiesis sponsored by the American Authors & Publishers Guild (AAPG), a non-profit organization that promotes literary quality, encourages reading and writing in the community, and raises awareness of the availability and depth of literary talent in our state.  (http://AAandPG.org/)

Connecticut Valley Winery (CTVW) is located in picturesque Litchfield County, and is owned and operated by Anthony and Judith Ferraro.  The winery has won a record-breaking 25 medals at The Big E Northeast Gold Wine Competition, and was also named the Best Small Winery in the Northeast.  Named “Favorite Connecticut Winery” on the CT Wine Trail, CTVW continues to win awards and receive great reviews.  Open Thursday through Sunday, 12 – 5 pm.

Grandparents Day
On September 7, 2014 from 12:30 - 3:30 Huntington Street Baptist Church will be having a Grandparent's Day Celebration at Williams Park in New London. There will be free food, a bouncy house, music, and tons of games for the whole family. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend. Williams Park is located at the corners of Broad and Williams Streets in New London.

Masonicare Home Health & Hospice
Masonicare Home Health & Hospice is looking for kind, compassionate and caring individuals to become part of their hospice team.  Volunteers play a critical role in hospice care and have the opportunity to provide patient and family support in a number of ways.  Volunteers support hospice patients and families in their own community.  The next training program for new volunteers will be held in September in the East Lyme office of Masonicare Home Health & Hospice. Dancing With Our Heroes

The Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios of New England are partnering together for a fund-raising “Dancing with Our Heroes” Gala to be held Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

The event will feature general dancing, a sit-down dinner, a silent auction, a professional show and the “Dancing with Our Heroes” competition. The proceeds of the event will be donated to The Friends of Fisher House Connecticut for the construction of a Fisher House on the grounds of the West Haven VA. The goal is to raise $500,000.

The “Dancing with Our Heroes” competition will be a Ballroom & Latin dance competition between our military heroes, who will each be partnered with a professional dance instructor. Each participating Fred Astaire Dance Studio will provide the instructors and free lessons to help the hero prepare for the competition. There will be no cost to the hero for participation. Winners will be selected by audience votes and a panel of celebrity judges.

All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 128 Niantic serves a buffet all you can eat breakfast on the first Sunday of each month at The American Legion Post 128, 16 York Ave in Niantic from 8:00-11:00a.m. Menu includes: pancakes, french toast, donut holes, bacon, sausage, homefries, omelets and eggs to order, bisquits, fruit cup, juice, coffee, tea, etc. A $8.00 donation for adults and a $3.00 donation for kids under 10 is asked to benefit our many Military, Veteran, Children, and Community Programs.
