Pet of The Week
The pet of the week at the Connecticut Humane Society, is Mister. Mister is a Collie, Cattle dog cross who is 1 year and 8 months old. He is a very active dog that would love to join someone in an agility ring, or would excel as a herding dog. He would do best in an adult only home, with no other pets. Help Fund Abe Bloom
Abe Bloom is an inspiration to the entire community. He has been selected to a All-Star Wrestling team that will travel the West Coast and parts of Canada this summer for 45 days wrestling some of the top kids in the country. He was choosen not only for his talent in the sport which he has won two national championships for, but he maintians a very high GPA, and charity work. He is trying to raise the $4,500 dollars for his trip, but half the money will go to charities such as Toys for Tots and The Make a Wish Foundation. Spaghetti Dinner for Zac Gore
A Spaghetti dinner will be held to help benefit a solider that got critically injured serving in Afghanistan. The event will be held on June 01, 2013 at Lisbon Fire Department at the junction of Route 169 and Route 138 from 4:00-7:00p.m. The soldier's name is U.S. Army Specialist Zac Gore, who was injured after stepping on a buried bomb while on a mission looking for a homemade bombs. He underwent emergency treatment in both Afghanistan and Germany, then later transferred to Texas. Tickets are $10 and are available at Lisbon Town Hall. All donations and all proceeds will directly benefit Zac and his family during this tough time. We are hoping to come together as a community and assist this soldier and his family during his long road to recovery.

Old Fashioned Strawberry Supper
Ledyard Congregational Church announces it's Old Fashioned Strawberry Supper to be held on Tuesday June 11th from 5:00-7:00p.m. at it's Fellowship Hall on Route 117 in Ledyard Center. A ham and baked beans supper, complete with summer salads and strawberry shortcake will be served for $10.00 for adults, $9.00 for seniors, and $6.00 for children aged 8 and under. Strawberry shortcake alone may be purchased for $5.00. Take-out will also be available.
Family Support Group
Southeastern Mental Health Authority will be providing a Family Support Group on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. This support group is a service for families and friends of persons who struggle with mental illness. Please contact Cindy McGrath at 860- 859-4568 for further information
MiMi's Spirit Lives On
Keiko Moreino lost her daughter to a tragic car accident in 2003. 17 year old Mimo Moreino was accepted to Harvard, planning on studying political science and was an accomplished jazz pianst when her life was taken. Her Mother is starting the Milagros Moreino Aldoun Fund in memory of her daughter. She is trying to raise $35,000 to fund scholarships to the two schools Mimi attended, Moses Brown Middle School and Ledyard High School. For those who are interested in donating can mail them to:

Friends of Fort Trumbull to welcome Jerry Roberts, Director of The Connecticut River Museum
Although most people don’t know the details of Connecticut’s role in the War of 1812, Jerry Roberts, the dynamic Director of the Connecticut River Museum, has vowed to change that deficiency. His presentation to The Friends of Fort Trumbull will be on May 30, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Fort Trumbull, New London, in the Conference Center behind the Visitors Center. The lecture is open to the public and new members are always welcome. Seating is limited. For more information go to www.fortfriends.org
